I was hired to illustrate 17 books for early readers (aged 3-5). The series is a successful curriculum that has been used for decades to teach children to read in homeschooled and alternative school settings. The client was looking for a visual refresh to meet today's world and new styles in children's literature. The goals were to keep the imagery simple (for young readers), loose, and textural. In addition to developing a contemporary and consistent style, I brought an intention to represent a diverse range of kids and families in character design - inspired by real kids in my life! In 3 months, I produced over 200 illustrations.
